What's New for the 2021 Toyota Corolla?

The Toyota Corolla, one of the most popular sedans in the auto industry, has some updates in 2021 that make it even better. The Corolla adds some more safety technology across the lineup this year, including redesigned airbags for the back row. Android Auto is now standard to increase the Corolla's technology package. A new trim level joins the Corolla family in 2021 called the Apex Edition. The Apex features a sporty suspension system and summer tires. Completing the Corolla's list of upgrades this year is an engine start-stop mechanism that conserves fuel in stop-and-go traffic.

The first trim in the Corolla lineup is the L. This year, the L adds Android auto to its technology package, which previously included Apple CarPlay. Both apps are supported with a standard seven-inch infotainment system. The doors are power-locking, and the L has cloth upholstery. Traditional safety aids for the L and successive trims include adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation, and lane departure warning. If you get the LE trim level that comes next, you'll upgrade to an eight-inch infotainment display screen, automatic climate control, and a USB port in the back row. Heated side mirrors are also added with this trim.

Additional benefits with the third trim, called the XLE, include premium LED headlights and alloy wheels. The interior comes with a push-button start and remote keyless entry. Heated front seats are added for cold-weather comfort, and the seats are finished with simulated leather. A sunroof is included on the XLE and up. The SE trim that comes next has a different engine with more power. It also has 18-inch alloy wheels, sporty exterior touches, and a sportier interior design. The SE Nightshade, a variant of the SE, has black exterior trim accents and black wheels. The XSE includes all the standard and available features of the SE and XLE. The Apex Edition, which is new this year, has a sporty suspension, black and bronze trim accents, and available summer tires.

The Corolla can be ordered with two engines. The first is a four-cylinder 1.8L that produces 139 HP. The SE trim level and a 2.0L four-cylinder engine cranking out 169 HP for maximum power and up to 151 LB-FT of torque. The base engine has an automatic transmission, but you can get a manual transmission for the top engine.
